Clinic:
Willow Project clinics are held on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. During each clinic, we see approximately 15 patients whose ailments vary. Some patients want to be seen for a simple check up or to recieve cold medication. Other patients are in more advanced stages of a health issue such as reoccuring heart attack or stroke.
The Willow Clinic is funded entirely with donations and money raised from fundraising events. We use 90% of the money earned towards purchasing medical supplies for our clinic or food for our patients. The remaining 10% goes to administration costs such as office supplies.
In addition to clinic, The Willow Projct also has an annual "Coats for the Homeless" Event during the Fall. This year we collected almost 500 coats for distribution to the homeless. Each coat recipient also recieved a sack lunch and care package containing items such as socks, toothbrushes, lotion and more. All items for the event were collected or bought through donations from the Davis and Sacramento communities.
Coats collected and organized by size for the homeless to browse through.
Three grateful recipients of the 2005 Coat Project event. While the Salvation Army does not usually house children, we recieved around 200 children's coats this year. Extra coats went to the Merry House (a homeless shelter for women and children).
The members of the Willow Clinic must attend mandatory Monday Meetings as a part of the administrative portion of ensuring that our clinic runs smoothly and effectively. This is also a time for all the committees to come together and keep one another updated on events. More pictures from Monday Meetings can be found below in the Social section.
The Willow Clinic was at the 17th Annual Heartbeat Run at the UCDavis Medical Center, held Sunday, Oct. 14th, 2007. We participated in the health fair, offering health screenings and other services. You can view pictures from the Heartbeat Run here.
Social:
While the members of the Willow Clinic are dedicated in their mission to helping the homeless, we also have social events and retreats to get to know one another as friends. Our bonds of friendship allow us to work together more productively in a team effort during clinic and fundraising events. In other cases, our social events are celebrations, such as to celebrate Mimi's (one of our 04-05 Medical student co-directors) sucessful completion of medical school and entrance into a residency program.
